@Jeff – Rather critical there and rather uncharitable as well don’t you think?
He seems to have not thought about the issue well enough or even read the bible! To say that he disagrees with the orthodox view is one thing, but to argue that there are no good reasons to argue against same-sex marriage is another – There are plenty, and some do not even base the objection on biblical/religious reasons, but societal.
This I think is a failure of our churches at present – They are too seeker- sensitive (and so seeker-orientated) where the service becomes either a self-help sermon or a gospel message. Neither of which helps the more mature christians develop! It seems that a lot of churches would prefer the short-term emotional conversion headline rather than the long-term intelligible discipleship. While there are churches/pastors that do teach doctrines/Apologetics etc, I get the impression they are not in the majority…
@Scott–I would acknowledge my comment as “critical”, yes, but “uncharitable” — no. This young man has been around too long not to know better by now. This is my sense of what is happening here: we may soon hear of his broadside announcement that HE is coming out of the closet himself, or worse, he and some of the other band members. I was a member of the NC Public Health Study Commission in the early nineties and will safely tell you that I have seen it all, including how the gay activists push their agenda by all sorts of subtle and fabian means.
As a high-profile singer he has taken upon himself a teaching/fiduciary role beyond that of the average saint-in-the-pew and should carefully consider that he will be judged by God more severely than others–if he gets it wrong. This is what I am discerning here. There are ample resources available to teach the proper stance a Christian should adopt in the face of the homosexual (sodomite) juggernaut we currently face. I feel that he is being dishonest when he suggests he is unaware of any good arguments, etc. They are there, and he should be willing to listen. He could start with Dr. Michael Brown or Pete Labarbera’s website at http://www.americansfortruth.com.
Having said this, however, I will agree with your second paragraph and commend your observations there as being “on the money”!

Too deep for me to analyze; I’ll stick to the Bible.
