Here’s another great video from William Lane Craig, this time on the fine-tuning of the universe for the existence of life (see also his video on the kalam cosmological argument).

Fine tuning can have lots of reasons other than the three listed in this video. The truth is nobody knows what the mechanisms of fine tuning are since the phrase “fine tuning” itself is man’s construct along with man’s definition and we can readily admit that man did not fine tune the cosmos. And so speculation will go on looking to hook as many proselytes as can be gathered for the religious coffers.
If it changed one hair it would be either this or that because he does not know so he must always give options in case he is wrong on one he may be right on the other but it could be options he can’t imagine.
The bottom line for this video?
There’s no scientific evidence for a supernatural-God-designed Universe either. If one can rule out scientific evidence for Chance and for Necessity why not rule it out for Design……….Oh that would rule out God too? HuH?

As they had previously agreed after the last oscillation cycle, they met again on planet R222 in the Rubicon galaxy of the Correolis cluster, fused their minds together and began to ponder how the constants of the universe had made them sentient. After 38000 revolutions of R222 about its sun, half way through R222’s oscillation cycle through its part of the spiral band of the Rubicon galaxy, they had come to an agreement that the constants of the universe were indeed fine tuned, making them the only life force possible in the universe. Well, mostly agreed. Those idiots from the Scienco galaxy kept insisting that a small increase in the mass of the neutral particles in the core of the atom could make atomic number 12 based life possible, rather than atomic number 14. In any event, they agreed to fuse again after another 38000 revolutions of R222 about its sun, at the start of the next oscillation cycle, to debate whether or not a Supreme Being was responsible for the universal constants.
And so it was, a long, long time ago, in a universe far, far away. Or was it the universe next door, 2 millennia from now. I forget. Maybe I’ll remember. Ask me again before the universe collapses into another singularity 38 billion years from now and sets off another Big Bang. Just as the Hindus predicted, even if they were slightly off in the time frame of the universe expansion and contraction cycle.

Bob:
As I read, (waded through), plodded, clutched for straws and wondered how many pages yet to go, this soup of convoluted conundrums was easier and easier to understand about why the finely tuned Universe is so finely tuned. BUT it leads me to ponder one question: Why was sex forbidden in the Garden of Eden? Actually two questions: Why could Adam not control his lustful desires when he looked upon the beauty of Eve in all her splendid finely tuned design that excited the chemical reactions in Adam’s brain by the mere sight of Eve reaching through the million or so fibers of the optic nerve to the optic chiasm of his eyes and focusing the image on brain into such a state that uncontrolled frenzied firing of neurons would eventually lead Adam’s heart to race and pump excessive blood through the arteries and veins and congregate in one organ in particular that would eventually lead Adam to exclaim,
“The Woman you gave me as a companion, she gave me fruit from the tree, and, yes, I ate it.”
God said to the Woman, “What is this that you’ve done?”
13 “The (finely tuned) serpent seduced me,” she said, “and I ate.”
Of course it is this very finely tuned design of a woman’s beauty that makes men mad with desire that has spawned ways to prevent sex, originally forbidden in Genesis, by religions around the world; for example, Islam covers the woman from head to toe leaving only the eyes for vison but the finely tuned eyes themselves are responsible for the snake slithering desire into the brain.
Other religions controlled the fobidden apple by circumcising women, others by creating the institution of Marriage so that the uncontrollable is still controllable to a finely tuned Nth degree with religion’s blessing. Others simply locked the girls up in the ivory towers where a few select men from the King’s Religious Court Services would periodically visit them with food and water that would take care of the girls survival needs and any offspring that miraculous intervention might visit upon them while in penitent confinement for the wickedness of their finely tuned beauty.
Do you have an answer to those posed questions? Advance appreciation for your learned wisdom that will undoubtedly set my mind at ease.
