A United Methodist pastor has undergone a sex-change surgery from female to male. The ruling body does not see a problem with this. I bet the Presbyterian Church USA is mad that the Methodists beat them to this! These two organizations seem to be in a competition of whose ministers can be more sexually deviant. John Wesley is probably turning in his grave right now.Update: Arthur uncovered a news article indicating that the Presbyterians did beat the Methodists to it. See the comments section.

“Drew Phoenix”? How about “Golden Calf”?

Tell me about it. These people are so far removed from Biblical Christianity.

Sounds like this isn’t even a first for the Methodists.
“In 2002, the Baltimore-Washington Conference had a similar controversy, when Rev. Richard Zimostny had a sex change operation and became Rebecca Steen. That minister’s request to return to the active pastorate was ultimately sidetracked and Zimostny/Steen left the ministry.”
Also, you asked whether the Presbyterians might be jealous that they got beaten to the punch. In fact, the Presbyterians were first.
“There are a few other cases of transsexual clergy in mainline Protestantism. In 1996, the Rev. Erin Swenson, a minister of the Presbyterian Church (USA) living in Atlanta, became the first mainline Protestant pastor to change sexes while remaining an ordained minister.”

Arthur,
Great research. The Presbyterians beat them to the punch after all. I guess the Methodists should be ashamed of themselves for taking so long to repeat the Presbyterian precedent.

Who are the “these people” you say “are so far removed from Biblical Christianity”?
I have worked and worshipped with United Methodists and not found this to be the case at all.

Aaron,
The United Methodist Church has become quite accepting of homosexuality. Is there a reason to doubt that this is true?
