The Episcopal church has decided it will continue to ordain openly gay bishops (as well as all other levels of the ministry), in defiance of the moratorium the Anglican Church issued in 2005. It will be interesting to see how the Anglican Church responds. Will they disfellowship the Episcopal Church in America, and recognize the newly created and more conservative Anglican Church in American instead?

I think the Anglican Communion should recognize the Anglican Church in America as the main Anglican church, but keep the ECUSA somewhat within the fold. I think they’re moving in that direction.

I read about this and although they have taken this view, as long as no church ordains an openly gay minister then there will not be a problem. However, if a single church does appoint a homosexual bishop then I can see no option apart from a split in the worldwide Anglican congregation.
In the future, I see this happening anyway (the split) as the liberals will always push the boundaries, and the traditionalists will always stand firm.
In a way, I look forward to the split as the liberals should have been removed from the beginning, but I’m also sad that this has even occurred as when the church divides, the world sees it as failure of that way of life.

Scott,
I have no doubt that they will ordain openly gay individuals to ministry very soon. After all, they already did in 2003(?) with the election of Gene Robinson. That’s what started this big mess. If they didn’t intend to elect more bishops and ministers like Robinson, they would not have made such a bold move in defying their mother church by adopting a contrary policy.

This is an example of “selective Cristianity.” God declared homosexuality and lesbianism as sin a long time ago. This rips apart any attempts at ecumenicalism. I DO NOT HATE THESE PEOPLE. But I believe in the Holy Word of God. I must not interpret it to suit my fancy. These folks need to repent. They are not my brethren.
