Don’t we learn a viewpoint and argument by interacting with it through argument though?

Blake,
That could be a way you learn about a viewpoint I suppose, but if you don’t know what the viewpoint is before you begin arguing about it, how do you know what to argue against it?
I find this to be an issue in the Godhead debate all the time. Trinitarians don’t truly understand the Oneness viewpoint they are critiquing, and Oneness adherents don’t truly understand Trinitarianism. As a result, they end up attacking straw men and the debate goes nowhere.
