Read about the story here. Just remember, homosexual advocacy and same-sex marriage will not affect anyone.
Update: Wes Modder has been cleared of all wrong-doing and will be allowed to retire from the Navy. It’s not clear whether this is a forced retirement or not.

The State has the right to promote by benefit – behavior, or business practices, the are beneficial to the wealth and wellness of over all society.
It is proven by sociologists that a child benefits (wellness) over all by having a Mom and a Dad in the home. Although this is not without exemptions, but that is not the point. This issue is does the State have the right to promote the optimal without penalizing those who do not fit the optimal? Yes, and the state does all day long with laws both legal and tax. It is actually an evolutionary principle. 🙂

Dane, I agree that the State should be able to promote the optimal without punishing the sub-optimal, but what does that have to do with this Navy chaplain’s situation? This is a matter of religiouis freedom. The miitary hired him as a Christian chaplain, and then seeks to silence him when he ministers according to Christian teaching. It’s not only ridiculous (to tell a Christian minister not to say things that reflect Christian theology), but it’s an attack against his religious liberty.

Hatred for Gays is not Chrsitian teaching; it is Judaism teaching that was pushed onto Christians by the Pharisees and Scribes who hijacked the following of Jesus because their own congregation numbers were diminishing exponentially after the failed crucifixion of Jesus opened the eyes of many to the hypocrisy of the clergy that Jesus warned about. Nevertheless the Pharisees managed to hijack the following with the injection of money, pomp and ceremony from the coffers of the Clerics fat vatican vaults.
Like a monstrous quicksand sinkhole, the Pharisaical predator gobbled up all offshoot religious sects to diminish competition and continued to promote their failed supernatural mirage of pseudo religion, decrees and ancient laws of blood sacrifices.

The Takeaway,
I love how you assess it as “hatred for gays.” Hatred is a feeling. Where does the Bible teach a particular way we should feel about gays as persons? Nowhere. It says homosexual behavior is wrong, and we should hate the behavior, just as we should hate adultery, fornication, bestiality, drunkenness, idolatry, and the list goes on. Would anyone conclude from this that we are taught to hate all of those people as well? Why can’t you accurately distinguish between objecting to one’s immoral behavior and loving them as a person made in God’s image?

Jason:
“Why can’t you accurately distinguish between objecting to one’s immoral behavior and loving them as a person made in God’s image?”
Because that is not the reality Jason. Love the sinner and hate the sin? uh uh. I don’t buy that. That’s merely a soothing but hypocritical way of justifying the venom you heap upon the community; it’s why there is so much gay bashing in the west, not just verbal abuse but physical beating, awful beatings, some unto death. Killing people because of their homosexuality is prevalent in the US and Canada and arounf the world. This is not unheard of and then you say oh, it’s the sin they are abusing them for?
Uganda plans to introduce a new anti-gay law that will withstand any legal challenge, a government minister has told the BBC.
It will not explicitly refer to homosexuality, but will rely on the penal code which prescribes a life sentence for “unnatural acts”, he said.
Activists say the plan is more draconian than anti-gay legislation annulled by the courts in August.
Uganda is a religiously diverse nation with Christianity and Islam being the most widely professed religions. According to 2002 census, 85.4% of the population is Christian, while 12.1% of the population adheres to Islam (mainly Sunni).
Gays are regularly persecuted Muslim countries too and regularly executed; do they also hate the sin so much that they feel a need to execute the sinner as they did in the Old Testament and from which the Christan community rails against them day and night. When Muslimns kill Christians are they just hating the sins because you are the wrong religion? There is little difference between a Christian and a Gay to a Muslim; just for that reason you ought to have empathy toward your fellow man.

The Takeaway, we are talking about Christians, not non-Christians, so references to Uganda and Muslim nations are irrelevant. And to point to some people in America (people that you are presuming are Christian, apparently) that are physically violent against gay people and try to broad brush that to all Americans or all Christians is just plain wrong. For every one person that does something like that, you’ve got 100,000 that don’t. That is irresponsible thinking.

A group of students at a suburban Pittsburgh high school have made national headlines for organizing an “Anti-Gay Day.” The event happened last Thursday in response to other students at McGuffey High School observing a Day of Silence for dead lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people. The students who organized the Anti-Gay Day wore matching flannel shirts, wrote “anti-gay” on their hands, and reportedly hung homophobic posters on LGBT students’ lockers. Arguably more disturbing: They passed out a “lynch list” of students who participated in the Day of Silence, and tied a noose to a flag in a classroom, according to BuzzFeed.
One student recalled the scene to local reporters. “Yesterday, there was pushing, posters hung on homosexual students’ lockers,” Zoe Johnson, a bisexual student at McGuffey, told news reporters on Friday. “Teachers were having to run out and take them down.” Johnson also said the so-called anti-gay students uploaded Bible verses to social media and tagged their LGBT classmates.
The Day of Silence was organized with the Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network. Johnson estimated that between 30 and 50 students participated. Kathy Cameron, chair of the board of directors of the Washington County, Pennsylvania, Gay Straight Alliance, told BuzzFeed that the Day of Silence was a touching event. “They had a very silent, respectful day of action,” Cameron said. “And then they came to school on Thursday to an organized backlash.” She added: “The instigators, the bullies, seemed very proud of their efforts, and posted many smiling pictures online.”
