Those who are opposed to state and federal defunding of Planned Parenthood argue that these dollars are not paying for abortions, but contraception and other female-related health services. So why would pro-lifers want to defund this? Do we just hate women? Do we want to ensure that more women are “punished” for premarital sex by getting pregnant? Of course not. What we understand is that the grants Planned Parenthood receives for their non-abortion services indirectly funds their abortion business. To see why, imagine for a moment that the government provided grants to churches to pay for all of their office supplies, marriage counselors, city permits, and building repairs. Would the pro-Planned Parenthood-funding crowd agree with the government that this is not supporting religion? Of course not! They realize that the money a church saves by not having to pay for those government-funded items will be redirected to evangelistic efforts. So while the government’s funds would not be directly funding Christian evangelism, they are indirectly funding it. The same is true of federal funding of Planned Parenthood. While these funds are not directly responsible for aborting babies, they are indirectly responsible because Planned Parenthood can use all of the money the government saved them and direct it to their abortion business. And when 41% of their revenue comes from government, that’s a lot of money to redirect to their abortion business.

92% of pregnant women who go to Planned Parenthood for “care” get abortions. It’s clearly the mission of that organization. That my money is extracted from me in order to fund such an abomination is an assault on my convictions. This statistic makes it clear that Planned Parenthood is not just an abortion provider, its focus is to provide abortions. It was founded on that principle. If you disagree, just read a few Margaret Sanger quotes, and the truth will become self-evident.

Want to stop abortions; provide contraceptives instead of wasted prayers, seances and cutting other preventative type health services for women.
Stripping the funding from Planned Parenthood, as Jeb Bush and other Republicans have proposed, would add to the burden. You don’t have to be particularly insightful to see where that will lead: more abortions.

It is against the law to use Federal funds for abortions; it’s the law and no funds are allocated for abortions by planned parenthood.
Planned Parenthood receives $500 million a year in government funding — or, to be more exact, $528 million last year, according to Planned Parenthood’s latest annual report. This is about 40% of the annual budget of $1.3 billion.
Not all of the public funds Planned Parenthood receives are federal spending, however. While Title X is a federal program, Medicaid operates using federal and state funds. States receive a 90 percent federal reimbursement on Medicaid family planning spending, for example. So when Washington politicians talk about “defunding” Planned Parenthood, they generally mean cutting off federal money. States could continue to spend as they please.
However, abortions are actually not a big part of what Planned Parenthood says it does — 3 percent of the services it provided last year were abortion-related, according to the organization’s annual report. (For a sense of the scope of that, abortions accounted for about 328,000 of the group’s nearly 10.6 million services provided last year.
The overwhelming majority of Planned Parenthood’s services involve screening for and treating sexually transmitted diseases and infections, as well as providing contraception.
Title X does not allow federal funds to be used for abortions. Medicaid, however, does allow government money to be spent on them — in very restricted cases.
The 1977 Hyde Amendment dictated that federal Medicaid funds could only be used to fund abortions in cases of rape, incest or to protect the life of the mother. However, some states have expanded cases in which they will provide funds. Currently, 17 states allow funds to be used for “medically necessary” abortions. In those cases that these states count as medically necessary but that are not permitted by the federal guidelines, states cover the cost alone.
Defunding planned parenthood would not decrease abortions but in fact would cause more abortions because defunding would cause less money available to prevent pregnancies and last year planned parenthood prevented

Last year planned parenthood prevented almost 600,000 unwanted pregnancies none of which led to abortions………. not one single abortion occurred out of more than a half million unwanted pregnancies..not one single case!

Leo, if making contraception available was the solution, the problem would have been solved long ago. Kids can get contraception just about anywhere now. That’s not the issue. Besides, contraception is not 100% effective. And when it isn’t, abortion is still going to be an issue, and so it still needs to be addressed by the law.
And your are missing the point. The government funding of PP is indirectly helping their abortion business. There’s no way around that. What I would be for is government funding of businesses that offer women contraception, but not abortion.
I’m not even going to address your “fake news” claim. Anyone who has watched the videos knows what was said, and the videos were unedited. Ridiculous.

In the late days of December, the Obama administration made a last-ditch attempt to protect Planned Parenthood from the incoming Republican Congress. On Thursday, the Senate voted to overturn the Obama administration’s regulation, lifting restrictions on how states treat abortion providers and clearing the way for Congress to take further action. The House had already passed the measure, and the Senate needed only a simple majority to get it through. When the vote came to a tie, Vice President Mike Pence cast the final ballot, taking Congress one step closer to taking money away from abortion providers….
While the legislation has not yet been signed by the president, it seems clear that the White House supports it. After all, the second-in-command made a special trip to the Senate chambers just to see it through. This resolution doesn’t do anything to Planned Parenthood immediately, and future attempts could, unlike this bill, be subject to a Democratic filibuster. But it clears the way for more legislative action—and the inevitable attempts ahead to defund the abortion giant and other providers.
