I would like to know your thoughts on a potential name change for this blog.
From day one, “theosophical ruminations” has caused a small bit of confusion. “Theosophical” is a combination of “theology” and “philosophical,” but it sounds similar to “theosophy,” which is not a movement I want to be confused with.
I’m considering renaming the site to “Theogetical Ruminations?” Theogetical is a combination of “theology” and “apologetical.” Not only would this distance me from any association with theosophy, but it would describe the blog a bit better. I focus much more on theology and apologetics (theogetical) than I do on theology and philosophy (theosophical).
What say ye? Keep theosophical, or change it to theogetical?

I think Theogetical does fit better.

If people confuse your present name with that mentioned movement, then it would be a good idea to change it.

Hi Jason,
Can you change “ruminations” to maybe “understandings, reflections, reasoning, realizations, revelations”…or something like that?
Since the first time I read your writings here years ago, every single time I see the word “Ruminations” my mind goes to “Ruination” and I feel bad about that, but it’s an automatic thing…….especially since the last thing you are is destructive or annihilating.
But if you keep rumination, that’s OK.
As far as “Theogetical” I have never heard that word in all my life.
All I know is that when I type it, that spell-check red line shows up…but that’s OK too.
If that’s the best way to describe it, then go for it…it’s better than somebody else assuming that you represent something that you’re not.
Whatever you decide, I know it will be good. 🙂

I think a name change is a good idea, especially since anybody who wishes to know what that term means will invariably be directed to “theosophy.” If your title were on par with such terms as “niggardly,” I would urge you to keep it. We should not show deference to ignorance. During the 1999 hubbub over niggardly, even the NAACP said, “You hate to think you have to censor your language to meet other people’s lack of understanding.” A name change in a similar situation scores a point for ignorance. We should be enhancing others’ education, not hindering it.
Anyway, your title doesn’t have the same etymological pedigree, but, alas, I can’t come up with a catchy substitute. Nonetheless, here are a couple of suggestions:
1) Philosophical Theology
2) Theistic Philosophy

A most interesting topic as I myself thought exactly the same thing last week precisely on March and I offer a precise to the effect although this change speaks to the last word Rumination rather that while researching. Maybe Karma or does scripture not say “Even as I think, it shall come to pass”
Personally I believe you should retain the philosophy aspect as it keeps one foot in the real, knowable world along with the one foot in the unknowable fantasy world.
Many use reflection as a synonym for rumination. I believe it is useful to understand the critical differences between the notions that these words – rumination and reflection – are attempting to describe. In fact, at some level, they are polar opposites of each other.
We all engage in rumination on a regular basis – that is where we allow our thoughts to swirl around in our brain, having the same thought multiple times with numerous variations, thinking about a series of what ifs, wondering about people’s motivations. It can go on for hours or even days…we all know the feeling, we have all had this experience. You might have had a run-in with someone; you’ve made a stuff-up or think you might have; or something just didn’t turn out as planned. It’s not always negative – it can be a great success or win where you happily indulge in private thoughts about your greatness or possibilities of future success – although my guess is that most rumination energy is put into the bad stuff.
We get stuck in superficial exploration, never progressing our thinking and action. This inevitably results in procrastination, anxiety or muddled thinking. I would call this type of thinking rumination. It is not reflection. It is not unusual
where people have found themselves stuck in circular thinking about an issue – the role of the blog in these circumstances is to help them break out of rumination.
Reflection on the other hand has intent – the intent to learn from the experience. In essence it is about making sense of the experience, identifying key insights and reaching conclusions from which you can benefit or take action in the future. It is an exploration followed by sharp thinking – divergent thinking followed by convergent thinking. One without the other is pointless – divergent thinking alone is rumination, convergent thinking alone is superficial and unstudied.
This type of thinking invokes the words of TS Elliot when he wrote ‘we had the experience but we missed the meaning’. This doesn’t mean that reflection has to be quick or mechanical or slow and ponderous, it just needs to be purposeful sense-making that leads to insight.
So my challenge is this: Try to recognize when you are simply engaging in rumination and see if you can push yourself though to reflection. Hopefully you will find the impact to be significantly different – anxiety and procrastination versus insight, confidence and action. The pay-off can be huge. A subtle change to your thinking pattern can be magic – giving you control and confidence you never thought you had!

Hi Leona,
I enjoyed reading your comment. You helped me to understand the difference between Rumination and Reflection.
I never looked at it that way, thank you! 🙂
In regards to Jason’s Bible based theology, I like the term Reflection, and now I also like the term Understanding.
Also in regards to philosophy, that is merely man’s opinions & ponderings, but when it comes to Biblical truth, in my opinion, there is only one opinion that matters for time & eternity and it’s God’s opinion.
Given that He created the universe and everything contained, He knows every aspect of what is revealed from under the microscope to what is revealed through the telescope and lightyears beyond…..and that includes all aspects of the human mind, body and soul.
He knows us better than we know ourselves.
My personal desire is to align myself with Him so I can be the best I can be to bring salt & light to a very broken and hurting world, in His Name – Jesus Christ.
So when Jason presents straight-up Biblical truths & principles, I definitely ruminate that information in my heart and gladly submit my will to God’s will, because He truly is a loving, merciful, holy and righteous Creator and I trust Him completely.
And when I say I trust Him completely, I do not mean I trust Him blindly. The Lord removes our blinders and He shines His Light, and like the song by Johnny Nash…….”I Can See Clearly Now”…..that’s how I feel about the Lord.
Thanks again!
Happy Resurrection Day and may you be in good health! 🙂
~Elaine
PS. Regarding what you said…..
“Maybe Karma or does scripture not say “Even as I think, it shall come to pass.”
The Bible definitely does not say that 🙂

Doing some word play:
Theogesis (theology + exegesis)
Theologia (theology + logic + apology)
Logos Appropos (Word + Appropriate) = fit spoken, well explained, timely word
Theologos (theology + Word)
Theopologia (theology + apologia)
Bibliological
Theological Theorums or Theogetical Theorums
Veritalogically Speaking (veritas [truth] + theology + logic)

Hi Elaine:
Thank you for your beautiful, heartfelt response. I inadvertently posted it a second time in error but there is no way to edit one’s post once done. Youtube posts have a useful tool in their comments section “edit/delete” for errors, misspellings and outright change of mind. I’ve had to use it many times.
Thank you my memory served me right with this reading some time ago:
Below I also submit the information may well be a catalyst for a fresh new conversation for renaming this blog and will leave it up to the recipients to imagine how but it most definitely will open many eyes to the new phase Humanity is now entering.
“Surely, as I have thought, so it shall come to pass, and as I have purposed, so it shall stand.” Isaiah 14:24
Happy “Reflective” Easter and remember these two names that will go down in history as champions of mankind. Jennifer Doudna and Emmanuelle Charpentier, Nobel Prize winners in Chemistry for their fantastic, heaven on earth invention, the gene editing system, CRISPR Cas9, the new heaven and new earth frontier for the elimination of all diseases afflicting mankind; in particular and finally, a CURE for cancer and hereditary disease afflictions.
If you think of nothing else today, that will be okay because this is profound and few people outside the scientific research community know about its implications.
I am pleased to give you this for your edification,
THE GOLDEN GIFT OF KNOWLEDGE
You have heard it said that the last thing to be conquered is death. No more crying, no more sorrow, no more tears for the former things have passed away.
That prophecy is being fulfilled in your hearing today as you read and view the following phenomenon. Think of it this way for a moment and reflect:

Hey Jason, it’s good to see that you’re aware of your “brand’s” perception to the public. I really like “Theogetical” more than “Theosophical.” Although I’ll have to admit that I’ll miss the title communicating the ‘philosophy aspect’ of your blog. Also, you are one of the few Oneness believers that I know who’s heavily into philosophy and writes on this subject with informative detail.
